Dane County Foreclosures Decrease by 32% in 2014

Dane County foreclosures in December dropped by 40% from the same month the year before. December foreclosure filings decreased by 24 from the number of filings registered in December of 2014, according to data maintained by the Wisconsin Circuit Court. A total of 36 new foreclosures were filed in December compared to 60 filings a year ago.
Wisconsin foreclosure filings decreased, by 33.7% from the number of filings registered a year ago. A total of 807 new foreclosures were filed in December compared to 1,218 in December of 2013.

This graph shows Dane County foreclosure filings for every December dating back to 2004. As the graph shows, the foreclosure total this past month is the lowest for any December over the last 11 years.
The number of new Dane County foreclosure filings initiated year-to-date through the month of December decreased by 32.1% from the levels of 2013. A total of 591 filings were initiated year-to-date through December compared to 871 during the same time period in 2013.
Wisconsin foreclosures decreased by 26.2% from the levels of 2013. A total of 12,293 filings were initiated year-to-date compared to 16,652 in 2013. The following graph compares Dane County and Wisconsin year-to-date foreclosure growth through the month of December. The growth rates reflect the percent change from the number of foreclosures registered year-to-date through December of 2013.
From the graph below you’ll see Dane County foreclosure activity has decreased for four straight years after increasing for six straight years. Foreclosure volume in 2014 ended the year at the lowest level in the past 9 years.
The following graph compares Dane County and Wisconsin foreclosure growth dating back to 2001. Prior to 2011, Dane County foreclosure growth had outpaced growth at the statewide level for 5 of the previous 6 years. Foreclosure growth in Dane County was lower than the statewide level in each of the past 4 years.
